Peg Powler
This is the nearest I could get to capturing an experience I had in the summer of 2011 at High Force Waterfall on the River Tees in County Durham. The hard bit was that she was so many things at once in a way which totally overloaded the senses. She wasn’t malicious, just a little too exuberant for anything as delicate as the human mind or body. Local legend calls her Peg Powler, a green haired, sharp toothed, child eater whose presence was signalled by foam on the river known as Peg Powler’s Suds.
