Barbēlō, the fourfold goddess, is the first emanation of God and the supreme female principle in some forms of Gnosticism. Here I’ve linked her with the Mountain Mother goddesses of the Ancient Near East who in various ways lie hidden at the heart of our history and culture, suppressed but constantly rising to the surface.
